Russia suddenly increases investments in US government securities

Russia increased its investment in US government bonds to $28 million in October this year.

This is emphasized in the data published by the US Treasury Department.

Investments in long-term bonds reached $24 million, and in short-term bonds, $4 million, RBC reports.

In September, Russia invested $25 million in US government securities. In June, Russian investments in government bonds reached $44 million, in July and August — $24 million.

Besides Russia, the largest holders of US government securities are Japan, China and Great Britain.

The Finance Ministry's report emphasizes that in October, foreign residents invested up to $136.3 billion in long-term US government bonds.

From 2020 to October of this year, the highest level of Russian investment in US securities was recorded in February 2020, amounting to more than $12.5 billion.
