The Federation Council discussed the issue of import substitution of sprats from the Baltics.

Senators considered options for supporting Russian fishermen.

The head of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Alexander Dvoynykh, pointed out that there are many Baltic sprats on Russian shelves, TASS reports.

This issue needs to be settled, the member of the upper house of parliament believes. To do this, it is necessary to consider measures that will help domestic producers.

The first step, for example, could be to reduce the tax burden for those who can replace imported products.

The politician noted that in the current circumstances, a producer market has formed, not a consumer market.

Therefore, Russia needs to be more active in creating a processing infrastructure, the senator believes.
