The UN rapporteur has spoken out about why the West refuses to acknowledge the negative consequences of anti-Russian sanctions.
States cite the unintended nature of the consequences that sanctions have on their citizens.
RIA Novosti received this comment from UN Special Rapporteur Elena Dovgan.
The expert was asked to give his opinion on the negative consequences that sanctions entail.
In this case, arguments are used that sanctions have unintended consequences, and that the states against which they are imposed do not want to comply with the conditions imposed on them.
Dovgan emphasized that in fact, states that impose sanctions must foresee in advance all the consequences of their decision.
Therefore, from the point of view of international law, states that impose sanctions are still responsible for the negative consequences for their citizens. However, as Dovgan emphasized, no one even conducts such an assessment.
