Every gardener has at least once asked himself the question of what kind of ash is best to use in the garden – old or fresh.

There are many theories and opinions on this issue and they all differ from each other.

Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh gave detailed recommendations on this matter.

According to the expert, both types of ash are equally useful.

Important note

The fact is that fresh ash is a real treasure trove of slaked lime.

This compound is very aggressive and should only be used if it is necessary to deoxidize the soil.

Therefore, fresh ash should only be used in emergency situations.

Old ash, on the contrary, turns into chalk, which contains a large amount of carbonate, which, when decomposed, turns into carbon dioxide, which is useful for garden crops.
