It will soon be time to sow vegetable crops for seedlings.

However, before this process, it is believed that the seeds need to be checked for germination.

Let's figure out how to do it correctly and what you need to know before sowing seedlings.

Seed germination

Germination depends on three factors: the degree of ripening, drying conditions and storage conditions of the finished product. Moreover, the longer the seeds are stored, the worse they will germinate.

The first step is to calibrate. To do this, dissolve 30-50 grams of salt in 1 liter of water and place the seeds there for 2 hours.

Those that float to the surface during this time can be safely disposed of: they will not produce a harvest anyway.

To determine the germination percentage, take 10 seeds and place them between several layers of moistened toilet paper or gauze.

After the seeds have sprouted, you should count the number of those that have sprouted. If 7 out of 10 have sprouted, you can conclude that the germination rate is 70%.

Please note: if the germination rate is around 30%, it is not recommended to sow such seeds.
