Before planting, onion sets must be soaked.
Then the plant will not get sick, will quickly start growing and the harvest will not disappoint.
There are two main means on the basis of which the soaking solution is prepared. Their effectiveness has been tested by time.

In both cases, warm water (up to 50 degrees) is used.
Potassium permanganate
The best option is a bright pink solution of medium strength.
A solution that is too strong can inadvertently damage the bulbs, while a weak solution may not disinfect well.
The medium solution is safer and more effective. But it is also not recommended to soak for more than 40-45 minutes.
Salt
Another simple and affordable remedy is salt.
There are three options:
- 20–25 g per 1 l of water (soak for 2–3 hours);
- 50–60 g per 1 l of water (1–1.5 hours);
- 80–100 g per 1 liter of water (no more than 30 minutes).
It makes sense to use a strong solution only if the planting material is clearly infected with something (mold, rot, etc. is observed).
In other cases, the average solution will be more than enough.
