Weed control in your garden can be a real challenge.

However, experienced gardeners know that there is a way to make the soil so unattractive to weeds that they simply will not germinate.

What crops to choose for planting

First, you need to choose crops that will create a dense, green carpet and suppress weed growth. The most popular ones include:

1. Lawn grass.
2. Clover.
3. Legumes.
4. Beans.
5. Peas and others.

Of course, when choosing crops for planting, it is worth starting from the rational component. A simple example: sowing the entire plot with peas or clover is definitely not the best idea.

Planting lawn grasses

Lawn grasses have the ability to form a dense carpet that leaves no room for weeds to grow. Moreover, they effectively compete for nutrients and light with weeds, preventing their growth. There is also a side effect, as lawn grasses will destroy other plants on the site.

Using green manure

Green manures are another effective method that can be used. Green manures include:

  • clover;
  • peas;
  • legumes.

Once they have grown and strengthened the soil, they can be dug over, enriching the soil with organic matter and preventing the growth of weeds.

Mulching the soil

After planting, it is useful to mulch the soil with a layer of organic material. You can use:

1. Straw.
2. Sawdust.
3. Grass bedding.

Not only does this help retain moisture and suppress weed growth, but it also decomposes gradually, enriching the soil.

Regular care

It is important to remember that even with the use of the above methods, regular maintenance of the site is required. This includes removing existing weeds, fertilizing the plants, and providing them with sufficient access to water and light. Weeds can only be defeated in one case – using a comprehensive approach.
