Gardeners quite often encounter a situation where radishes do not form root crops.

At the same time, many believe that the fruits do not ripen only because of a lack or excess of light.

However, experts say that this is just one of the possible reasons, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Incorrectly selected variety

When choosing a variety, it is important to consider several factors:

  • planting site (open ground or greenhouse);
  • illumination of the area;
  • boarding time.

If you plan to grow radishes in a greenhouse or in a poorly lit area, you should choose shade-tolerant varieties. And in case of late sowing (in May-June) - color-resistant ones.

Too much or too little light

For proper growth and development, radishes need a certain length of daylight. When there is too much light, plants direct all their energy to flowering and seed formation. And when there is not enough, they do not receive enough solar energy.

Depleted or over-fertilized soil

Radishes, like any other crop, require abundant nutrition for good fruiting.

However, sometimes gardeners are too zealous in this matter and overfeed their plants.

An excess of various substances (especially nitrogen) disrupts the distribution of forces and most of them go to the formation of tops, not roots.

Lack of nutrition and nutrients is also a fairly common reason for the lack of fruit in radishes. Moreover, phosphorus deficiency has a particularly negative effect on their development.
