On October 10, Orthodox believers honor the memory of Saint Savvaty, the founder of the Solovetsky Monastery.

According to the folk calendar, Savvaty was called the Beekeeper: on this day the Bee tithes ended.

It was customary to observe bees and judge the upcoming weather by the insects' behavior.

Weather signs

Savvatiy the Beekeeper's Day was named so for a reason: the behavior of bees indicated what the weather would be like in the future.

If insects did not cover the hive for a long time, it meant that the winter would be mild. The same was promised by the absence of cones on the pines and firs, as well as an autumn thunderstorm.

If dry weather set in, winter was not expected soon.
