Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the great martyr Methodius of Patara.
Among the people, this celebration is called Methodius Day.
In Rus', on this day it was customary to try to catch a quail with your hands.

If you do manage to catch the bird, then, as was believed in ancient times, the whole year will be very profitable and prosperous.
Methodius of Patara lived at the turn of the 3rd-4th centuries AD. He was born in Asia Minor and from his childhood could boast of a quiet character.
Despite his restraint, Methodius was able to defend his religious morals. He also fought effectively for the interests of Christians and the purity of the Christian faith.
One day Methodius was captured. He was subjected to cruel torture in an attempt to excommunicate him from the faith, but he did not change his religious beliefs.
Then the Christian great martyr was eventually executed by idolaters.
In memory of Methodius, a legacy remains in the form of his literary works on the Orthodox faith.
In these sacred books, the saint debunked the dogmas of heresy, explained the Holy Scriptures and revealed the concept and essence of morality.
