Nut Savior: what can and cannot be done on this holiday - note for Orthodox Christians

Today, Orthodox believers celebrate a holiday that in ancient Rus' served as a harvest festival.

Among the people, this celebration is called Nut Savior.

In Rus', on this day it was customary to eat nuts, as well as prepare various dishes with them.

In this case, it was necessary to attend a church service and during it, bless the nuts in the church.

According to the church calendar, Nut Savior is preceded by Honey and Apple Savior.

It is emphasized that for each holiday the date remains the same from year to year, in particular, these are August 14 and 19.

In addition, according to popular belief, it is on this day that the feast of the Transfer of the Image of the Lord Jesus Christ Not Made by Hands from Edessa to Constantinople is celebrated.

On this day, it was also considered obligatory to collect and bless nuts and ears of grain. Dinner during this period had to be prepared as rich as possible.

Thus, in particular, only hearty dishes should have been present on the table, which should have been tried so that the coming year would be fruitful and joyful.

What you can't do on Nut Savior

On this day, many people followed certain rules:

  • did not quarrel, especially with relatives;
  • did not refuse help to those in need;
  • didn't be lazy and didn't lie around all day.

It was on August 29 that it was considered a grave sin to commit ungodly acts, namely, to spend time alone. Otherwise, according to beliefs, a whole year of deprivation would come.

What can you do on Nut Savior

Today it is recommended to go to church for worship.

In addition, you can set a festive table and have a good dinner.

The evening time of the day should be spent with loved ones, in particular close relatives.
