Murder on the Ferry

In May 2021, a woman fell into the sea and died while riding a ferry in eastern China.

The man appeared paralyzed after learning from police that his wife had died.

The Chinese claimed that the incident was accidental, but the police became suspicious. Moreover, forensic experts found bruises on the face of the deceased.

It emerged that the man ran a restaurant in Shanghai and married a 46-year-old worker six months before her death.

Police also found that the man owed at least $140,000. He also bought four life insurance policies for his wife two months after their wedding.

In the event of a woman's accidental death, the compensation amounted to almost US$1.6 million.

During the investigation it was discovered that the way the body of the deceased fell indicated that she had been pushed.

The man was ultimately sentenced to death and the sentence was upheld despite an appeal.
