The European country introduced a six-day working week on July 1.
Greece was the first in the European Union to take this measure. Even at the discussion stage, the proposal was criticized.
The six-day work week in Greece will affect continuously operating enterprises that used the 5-day work system, OT reports.
The decision was made back in the fall of 2023, and it officially came into force on July 1, 2024.
Greek employers now have the right to unilaterally introduce a 6-day working week.
But the law will not affect everyone. For example, it will not affect the tourism sector and food trade.
The law is primarily aimed at continuously operating companies. The measure should help businesses with their daily operations.
Especially those who cannot find qualified employees and therefore properly organize shifts.
Material compensation is provided for the 6th working day. Employees will be paid an additional 40% of their daily salary and 115% if the sixth day falls on a holiday.
In addition, an additional day off is provided for the coming week.
On the sixth day, workers must work no more than 8 hours. Overtime is not encouraged.
Earlier, 8 Kazakhstanis were accused of setting fire to a forest on the Greek island of Hydra.
