The diplomat told who was against Maria Zakharova’s arrival at the OSCE Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
Some EU countries have called on Malta to cancel the visa of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The details were revealed by Malta's Ambassador to Russia Carmelo Inguanez, RTVI reports on its Telegram channel.
A member of the diplomatic mission explained that this was not a unilateral decision by the country's authorities.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malta, Evarist Bartolo, took into account the position of “some states” of the European Union.
It was they who insisted that he make the decision to cancel Zakharova’s Maltese visa.
After this, the ambassador in Moscow received instructions and carried out the order of his Foreign Ministry.
At the same time, Inguanez was unable to say which countries specifically were against Zakharova’s participation in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The diplomat merely stated that we are not talking about one state, but several.
