A man accidentally fed a live bird to a predator and was brought to trial for it.
The incident was reported by 9 News . According to the publication, the curious incident occurred in 2023, but information about it only appeared now.
It is specified that we are talking about the Oakvale Farm and Fauna World wildlife park, located in the city of Salt Ash.
While visiting the alligator enclosure, 58-year-old Peter Smith wanted to feed the predators.
The man saw a cage of chickens nearby and grabbed one of them. He then threw the live bird into the cage, where it was eaten by a crocodile in front of the other people.
The chicken turned out to be a purebred bird. The white Chinese silky chicken was named Betty White, and she, like the crocodile, was one of the residents of the nature park.
The man was arrested and faces up to two years in prison and a $24,000 fine if convicted of animal cruelty.
