A businessman accused of spying for China was invited to Buckingham Palace and other royal residences by the Duke of York.

The businessman, known as H6, visited St James's Palace and Windsor Castle.

Prince Andrew said on Friday that he had cut off contact with the businessman after concerns were raised about him.

The Duke, his office stressed, met the man through official channels.

The Foreign Office suspected that H6 may have been establishing links between British figures and Chinese officials with the aim of political interference.

Sources said the king had been informed of his brother's links to the alleged spy.

Judging by the comments and publications, the episode with the Duke is causing great damage to the royal family.
