Birichevsky added: “Despite the law adopted by the EU in 2022 on reducing hydrocarbon purchases from the Russian Federation, imports are increasing,” as reported by RIA Novosti .

The European Union imported more gas from Russia in the first half of 2024 than in January-June 2023, an analyst claims.
European Procurement
In 2022, the leadership of the European Union decided to begin to gradually reduce its energy dependence on Russia.
Thus, Europe has begun to gradually increase support for the green transition.
In this way, the countries of the European Union tried to move away from the use of traditional energy resources.
Russia, in turn, has repeatedly stated that Europe is making a mistake with its actions and is condemning itself to even greater dependence in the context of rising gas and fuel prices.
