Polish investigators claim that Maxim was allegedly recruited by the FSB via the Telegram messenger.

The case materials state that Sergeev initially published political content on social networks.

The athlete then allegedly “documented strategic objects.”

Examples given include the railway station in Przemysl and the defence plant in Silesia.

It is noted that the hockey player rented an apartment whose windows overlook a plant producing military products.

In addition, documents related to the Wagner PMC were allegedly found in the athlete’s laptop.

The investigation claims that Sergeyev was one of 16 people who were engaged in espionage for the Russian Federation. It is emphasized that 14 people have already been detained.

The hockey player could have been sentenced to a maximum term of 10 years, but admitting guilt allowed him to avoid this.

Maxim spent two years in the dock. He will ultimately be deported to Russia in May 2025.
