It has become known about the measures that were taken against Russians illegally staying in Sri Lanka.
The citizens detained on the island were forcibly sent home.
RIA Novosti journalists received confirmation of this information at the Russian embassy.

It is noted that earlier, mass checks began on the island, the purpose of which was to identify people illegally residing in Sri Lanka.
As a result, law enforcement officers discovered a family from Russia who had lived on the island for a year without the appropriate permission to do so.
The Russians were detained and sent to a deportation centre in Colombo, where they spent several days by court order.
As it recently turned out, Russian citizens have already been expelled from the island; they have been deported to their homeland.
In connection with this situation, the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka called on citizens to check their documents in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.
