An incident that occurred on one of the beaches of Hawaii has become known.
An elderly surfer almost completely lost his leg after an encounter with a shark.
The local portal Hawaii News Now reports on the incident.

According to the publication, the incident occurred on November 6 at 7 a.m. The 61-year-old victim went to Vaiehu Beach to go surfing.
While the man was standing on a board in the water, a shark swimming past suddenly attacked him.
The surfer's screams were heard by other people, who helped the man escape.
On the shore it turned out that as a result of the attack he had lost half of his leg: the shark had bitten off his limb up to the knee.
While those present were waiting for the medics to arrive, they managed to apply a tourniquet to the victim so that he would not die from blood loss.
The fire chief noted the strength of the victim. The man was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
Following the incident, Vaiehu Beach was closed indefinitely.
