Three Taiwanese military intelligence officers are suspected of spying for China.

The detainees were found guilty by the court of creating an agent network and transmitting classified information to Chinese intelligence services.

Two colonels and a retired major general received money, free trips and assistance in developing their businesses in exchange for cooperation with China, the Taipei Times newspaper reported.

The court sentenced one of the colonels to 18 months in prison, the second to 14 months, and the retired major general to 10 months.

Another intelligence colonel previously believed to be involved was acquitted in court due to lack of evidence.

Prosecutors argued that the three defendants made deals with Chinese intelligence for cash incentives and post-retirement benefits.

The investigation established that high-ranking military officials were recruited after trips to China.

Two colonels and a retired major general were either asked or forced to provide confidential information to Chinese intelligence services.
