The department said in a statement that 323 vials of infectious viruses went missing from a Queensland virology laboratory in August 2023.

Samples of the Hendra virus, lyssavirus, hantavirus and a number of other equally dangerous ones have disappeared.

The laboratory where the samples went missing monitors and studies viruses and diseases carried by mosquitoes and ticks.

The Ministry of Health does not have information on whether infectious samples were stolen or destroyed.

At this time, no evidence of risk to society has been found.

In this regard, it is emphasized that the government has launched a “Part 9 investigation.”
