The captain of the tanker Volgoneft-212, which sank in the Black Sea, has been arrested.
The court in Simferopol decided to arrest the captain for two months.
He was remanded in custody until February 17, 2025, according to a press release from the Telegram channel of the press service of the Crimean Main Directorate of the Investigative Committee.
The captain of the oil tanker is suspected of violating safety regulations for the movement and operation of maritime transport.
As a result of the death of a crew member, the captain was given a two-month preventive measure.
Days earlier, the tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 sank.
The incident in the Kerch Strait area occurred due to a storm.
As a result of the accident, some of the oil products spilled into the sea. The tankers were presumably transporting more than 9,000 tons of fuel oil.
Apparently, about 3.7 thousand tons spilled into the sea.
The evacuation of people from the tankers was carried out quickly. One person died, the injured were taken to hospitals.
The captains of both tankers have been detained as a result of the investigation.
