The 56-year-old deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Krasnodar Krai was detained at his workplace.
The fact of the detention of Colonel Sergei Simonenko in Krasnodar was confirmed by law enforcement agencies on Thursday, August 1.
A criminal case has been opened against the high-ranking official, TASS reports. But it has not yet been specified what exactly the officer is suspected of.

The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the central office of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. In the past, Simonenko was checked for involvement in corruption, attempted murder and arson.
It is also specified that the colonel was applying for the general's position of head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Krasnodar Territory. Simonenko was the acting head of the Kuban Ministry of Emergency Situations in June-July 2024.
In October 2018, he was dismissed from service due to reaching the age limit.
But he managed to challenge this decision and return to the structure of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations. This happened in the fall of 2022. Symonenko became deputy chief a year later.
