The lawyer of the former commander of the 58th Army, Major General Ivan Popov, Sergei Buinovsky, spoke about the examination conducted in relation to his client.
The analysis revealed Popov's forged signatures on a number of documents.
Buinovsky commented on the results of the examination: "The signatures do not belong to my client. He should not have signed there at all," as reported by TASS .

It is emphasized that the handwriting examination was conducted in accordance with the initiative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
The General's Accusation
Buinovsky expressed the opinion that the results of the analysis disprove the guilt of his client in the fraud and official forgery with which he is accused.
The lawyer pointed out that the investigation is building its evidence base “on circumstantial evidence.”
Earlier it was reported that the Second Western District Military Court in Moscow chose house arrest as a punishment for General Popov.
The defendant himself called such a measure illegal. He voiced his opinion at the court hearing.
