Man killed by lightning while climbing one of Russia's highest mountains

A resident of Tolyatti died while climbing the second highest peak in the Caucasus.

The cause of death was presumably a lightning strike, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

In 1973, the Russian climbed Mount Dykhtau (5,204 m) in Kabardino-Balkaria, TASS reports.

The man was part of a group registered at the Bezengi mountaineering camp. It consisted of four people.

During the ascent, lightning struck. It became fatal for the climber from Tolyatti.

Six rescuers from the Elbrus search and rescue squad of the Russian Emergencies Ministry were sent to evacuate the body of the deceased.

Mount Dykhtau, which translates as “steep mountain”, is the second highest mountain in the Caucasus after Elbrus.

It is included in the list of 10 peaks of the Russian Federation, after conquering which the title of "Snow Leopard of Russia" is awarded.

Earlier in Buryatia, a bear tore apart a woman who decided to go fishing.
