Police officers detained a man for lighting a cigarette from the flame of the Eternal Flame. Details are reported by TASS with reference to the head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Sverdlovsk Region, Valery Gorelykh.
The scene of the incident was Victory Park in Revda, Sverdlovsk Region.
It is noted that soon after the incident, police officers identified the offender - a man born in 1979. He had been held accountable in the past.
According to Gorelykh, the necessary materials have been collected regarding the desecration of the symbol. They have been sent to the regional Investigative Committee of Russia.
The press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Sverdlovsk Region concluded that the man could face a prison sentence of up to 3 years.
