There was a shootout near the Abkhazian parliament on December 19.
As a result of the incident, two Abkhazian deputies were injured.
Parliamentarians Kan Kvarchia and Vakhtang Golandzia were wounded and taken to intensive care, TASS reported, citing its sources.
Doctors provide assistance to Kan Kvarchia, who has a wounded arm. Vakhtang Golandzia died from his wounds.
The republic's Ministry of Health explained that doctors were unable to help him, despite all their efforts.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, MP Adgur Kharazia is suspected of carrying out the shooting and fled the scene of the crime.
There is no information yet about who opened fire and for what reason. An investigative task force has arrived at the scene.
