Suspect in major fraud extradited from Russia to Kazakhstan

A citizen of Kazakhstan suspected of large-scale fraud was extradited from Russia.

The man faces a prison term of five to ten years.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, the defendant was involved in a crime committed in 2019-2020.

The man deceived the businessman in order to obtain special equipment worth 53 million tenge (about 107 thousand dollars).

The suspect also embezzled 35 million tenge (more than $70,000) after selling a car that did not belong to him.

Having committed the crimes, the suspect escaped and was put on the international wanted list.

He was detained in St. Petersburg in July 2024. The Kazakh citizen is currently in a pre-trial detention facility in Petropavlovsk.

The republic's Prosecutor General's Office reported on its Telegram channel that the man could face a prison term of up to ten years with confiscation of property.
