When winter confidently comes into its own, motorists are faced with the inevitable need to replace summer tires with winter ones.

However, proper storage of summer tires during the cold season is no less important than their timely replacement.

Improper storage can reduce the life of tires and even lead to their deformation.

Before storing your tires for a long period of time, clean them thoroughly. Dirt, oil, and road chemicals can damage the rubber surface if left on the tire for several months.

Use a soft brush and soapy water to remove dirt. Pay attention to the sidewalls and tread, as these areas are most vulnerable.

The ideal place to store summer tires is a dry, cool and dark room. Humidity and direct sunlight are harmful to rubber.

If you don't have the opportunity to store your tires in a garage or basement, consider specialized covers or bags that will protect them from negative factors.

There are two ways to store tires: horizontally and vertically. If you store tires with rims, place them horizontally, one on top of the other. It is important to change their position regularly to distribute the load evenly.

If the tires are without rims, vertical storage is preferable, which will prevent deformation. Remember to rotate them a few degrees periodically to avoid "stands".

Check the tire pressure before storing. If the tires are mounted on rims, it is recommended to slightly reduce the pressure to avoid excessive tension. However, do not completely deflate the tires, as this can damage the sidewalls.

Keep your tires away from oils, solvents, and other chemicals. Not only can they damage the rubber, but they can also affect its performance later on. Keep your tires away from these substances, especially if you have a closed storage area.

If you have a large collection of seasonal tires, consider purchasing special stands or racks. They distribute the weight evenly and reduce the risk of deformation.
