“Newspapers and a blue rag are the worst thing you can think of,” said cleaning expert Alexey Kovalev on the show “Cleanliness without secrets.”
Paper leaves micro-damage, and synthetics leave streaks.
Consumer Reports magazine conducted a test: windows washed with microfiber and a solution of water and wine vinegar (1:4) remained clear 4 times longer.

The secret of Alexander , a window cleaner from London:
"Use a rubber squeegee and distilled water. No streaks, even in the sun."
For coated glass, add a drop of dye-free dishwashing liquid. A 2024 study by Glass Care Today found that this formulation does not leave a film.
User Oksana from Kiev wrote:
"I washed windows the old-fashioned way - scratches appeared after a month. I switched to a scraper - the glass is like new."
But avoid washing in hot weather - water evaporates too quickly, leaving stains. The best time is morning or evening on a cloudy day.
And for PVC frames? Chief cleaner Maria Krylova advises:
"Wipe them with a mixture of water and alcohol (3:1) to remove dirt and prevent yellowing."
And don't forget about the seals: lubricate them with silicone grease to prevent them from cracking.
A Pikabu forum user under the nickname OknaMaster shared:
“I treat the seals once a year - the windows don’t blow even after 5 years.”
