Attentive Muscovites have begun to notice mosquitoes in the snow.

Some residents of the capital could have taken this as a sign of imminent warming.

The situation was explained by the press service of the Moscow Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection on its Telegram channel.

On Saturday, December 7, the capital was covered by a wave of snow. But some city residents noticed mosquitoes in the snowdrifts.

The department explained that this is a special type of insect – winter (snow) mosquitoes.

They are also afraid of severe frosts, but during periods of warming they can emerge from their shelters.

These insects are sedentary and do not feed as adults. That is, they do not drink the blood of people or animals.

Their life is short. During their senior stage of development, they use the energy they accumulated during the larval stage.

“So we’re not putting away our down jackets for long; we’re continuing to keep warm,” the department emphasized.

On the night of Monday, December 9, 0…-2°C is forecast in Moscow. -1…-6°C is expected in the Moscow region.

During the daytime, the city will be around zero degrees.
