The political situation in Syria has been unstable since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
According to an Iraqi expert, it will take about 10 years before the situation in the country improves.
Security expert Heidar Salman voiced his opinion in a conversation with RIA Novosti .

According to Salman, the state integrity of the country will most likely be under threat after recent events. He did not rule out that a fight will begin for border areas and territories in the Euphrates River region.
New government bodies will also be formed, but the expert believes that the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group will retain the leading position.
As Salman emphasized, the formation of a new government will certainly face a problematic period. For comparison, the expert cited Iraq, which went through similar events.
According to the expert, the process of stabilizing the situation in the country could drag on for many years and take at least 8-9 years as a result.
