The head of the German Foreign Ministry described the recent prisoner exchange between Russia and the West in one sentence.
Annalena Baerbock admitted that this question was difficult for Berlin.
Germany handed over Vadim Sokolov (Krasikov) to Russia, whom Berlin sentenced to life imprisonment.

German television service Tagesschau asked Baerbock what she thought. The German diplomat called the exchange "an extremely delicate dilemma."
The German government did not want to extradite Krasikov. The Cabinet of Ministers did not agree for a long time, but in the end a positive decision was made.
Baerbock emphasized that this decision was difficult for the German authorities. All members of the government were against it, but they had to take into account common Western interests.
The American publication The Wall Street Journal, which brought back its journalist Evan Gershkovich from Russia, reported that the issue with Krasikov in the German government was allegedly lobbied by Hillary Clinton.
