According to Federal Prosecutor Jens Rommel, the investigation into the bombing of the Nord Stream pipeline is progressing.

New suspects have emerged in the case.

The police were able to identify two of the accused, which is clearly a success that was not expected at the beginning of the investigation, Rommel told Der Spiegel .

The identities of the other participants, their motivations and connections are being investigated.

Rommel explained that the question of possible government control of the operation remains a central subject of the ongoing investigation.

Identifying the two suspects is a success, Rommel stressed.

He also said the investigation was based on the fact that gas pipelines supplying gas to Germany were damaged.

The federal prosecutor added that the attack was aimed at destabilizing the economy.

Two gas pipelines, Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, were attacked as a result of several explosions.

The damage was discovered near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea.

In addition, four leaks were discovered on three of the four lines of the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
Russian gas was supplied to Germany via Nord Stream 1.

Nord Stream 2 was not put into operation due to the conflict in the region and subsequent political disputes.
