The head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Elvira Nabiullina told what became the main problem for Russian banks in 2024.
In her opinion, it was the sanctions that had a strong impact on Russia’s financial system.
During 2024, the number of banks under restrictions almost doubled.

Nabiullina explained that 129 Russian financial structures were included in the list of Western sanctions.
Accordingly, almost all major Russian banks were included in the sanctions list.
The head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation emphasized that restrictive measures affected the ability to conduct settlements and work on the Moscow Exchange.
Nabiullina also noted that challenges in the form of sanctions affect the activities of the Russian banking system.
She believes that the sanctions imposed against Russia have become the most serious challenge that Russian banks have had to face in the past year.
