The Russian leader pointed out that some people did not quite understand the essence of the changes to the nuclear doctrine.

“We are not tightening the nuclear doctrine, we are improving it,” the Kremlin press service website quotes Putin as saying.

In addition, the president stated that a sufficient stock of hypersonic medium-range ballistic missiles "Oreshnik" greatly reduces the need to use nuclear weapons.

Putin added that Russia should now focus on improving not the doctrine, but its new missile system.

The President also previously noted the importance of stable serial production of these missiles.

It has recently become known that the Oreshnik systems may appear in at least one CIS country.

Putin agreed with Alexander Lukashenko's proposal that these missiles should be deployed on the territory of Belarus.

But this will happen around the second half of 2025. The timing is related to the establishment of serial production.
