The State Duma responded to how Russia will react to the decision of the Abkhaz parliament on the investment agreement with Moscow.

It recently became known that Abkhazia refused to ratify the document, which had previously caused protests and led to the resignation of the president.

The position of the Russian Federation was voiced by State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova, Lenta.ru reports.

She said that the decision of the republic's parliament will not lead to a deterioration in relations.

Russia will continue to cooperate with Abkhazia in a number of areas, but Moscow is counting on a revision of the investment agreement.

Zhurova noted that the document will likely be analyzed again after the presidential elections.

The deputy stressed that this issue should be approached delicately in order to avoid a new wave of discontent: “I don’t want unrest – it’s useless.”

The State Duma member added that the investment agreement that Russia wants to conclude with Abkhazia is not unique.

Russia has signed similar documents with a number of other countries. It called this cooperation mutually beneficial, but Abkhazia does not yet think so.
