The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Moscow was able to keep the format “afloat” during its chairmanship.
Zakharova pointed out that the countries of the "nuclear five" (Russia, China, the USA, Great Britain, France) have contradictions. The words of the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are quoted on the website of the department.
They were provoked by the West, Moscow believes. But at the same time, Russia did everything to ensure that the format continued to function.
The channel that allows for the transmission of the most important signals and the delivery of fundamental approaches to resolving certain situations and issues has not been destroyed. Zakharova believes that this is already very important in the current conditions.
The Foreign Ministry representative believes that the “nuclear five” will still play an important role in the context of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
The year of Russia's presidency of the "nuclear five" is ending. The last meeting under the leadership of the Russian Federation took place in Geneva (Switzerland). From now on, China will take over the leadership functions in this format.
