The US fears losing a key region after two countries join BRICS.
These countries are Thailand and Malaysia. Their accession to BRICS would mean Washington losing control over Southeast Asia.
Thailand and Malaysia are among 30 countries that have applied to join the bloc. And that's scaring Washington, writes Foreign Policy magazine.

The publication notes that BRICS is reaching “maturity” and is becoming attractive to many countries around the world, including the states of the Global South.
Among them, the US has no obvious enemies, except Iran, the publication notes, but these states have placed their bets on multipolarity at the expense of “blocism.”
Southeast Asia is of particular interest to the United States, analysts say.
Here Washington still has one of its key allies – the Philippines. This country is showing interest in BRICS, but is not yet ready to talk about joining.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry named the conditions for returning to dialogue with Japan.
