The head of the US State Department called this step by Moscow “irresponsible”.
Blinken noted that world leaders have now gathered in New York as part of the UN General Assembly to discuss modern crises, Reuters reports.
And at that moment, Russia announces plans to update its nuclear doctrine, a move Blinken says is “irresponsible” and “ill-timed.”
Vladimir Putin proposed updating the nuclear doctrine on Wednesday, September 25.
Moscow believes that the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons should be reviewed and adapted to modern geopolitical realities.
This decision caused heated discussions in the West and other countries that maintain allied relations with the United States.
