Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili refused to resign after parliament elected a new head of state.
She stressed that she would not leave the country for fear of persecution.
Zurabishvili explained that she will not follow the example of Belarusian oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and Venezuelan candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, TVP World reports.
The head of state said that she does not intend to become a politician in exile.

Zurabishvili explained that she does not intend to become either Tikhanovskaya or Gonzalis, despite their recognition in the West.
The Georgian leader stressed that she does not intend to leave the country under any circumstances.
She also called on Georgian citizens to support her in the fight against the current government.
Zurabishvili called the presidential elections a parody and supported the public protests.
