Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili refused to resign after parliament elected a new head of state.

She stressed that she would not leave the country for fear of persecution.

Zurabishvili explained that she will not follow the example of Belarusian oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and Venezuelan candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, TVP World reports.

She also called on Georgian citizens to support her in the fight against the current government.

Zurabishvili called the presidential elections a parody and supported the public protests.
