Sometimes the most important clues can be found not in the advice of modern psychologists, but in wise sayings spoken hundreds of years ago.

The Persian poet, philosopher, mathematician and astronomer Omar Khayyam (1048–1131) left behind many precise guidelines.

This wise man once explained why you shouldn't share your problems with your friends.

"Do not look for a friend in other people's corners, do not share your misfortunes with him. Be alone. Find a cure for your suffering yourself. Let your comforter cure himself," said Khayyam.

He recommends not to rely on consolation from someone during difficult times, but advises to rely primarily on your own strength.

Having found his own internal resource, a person will become his own support.

Of course, the sage does not call for isolation. Rather, he reminds that each person has an inner strength that can and should be used.

Someone else's help is temporary. But inner consolation never leaves a person.

The philosopher also said that one needs to seek balance in relationships.

It's good when you have friends who can support you.

But a person must learn to help himself first and then offer help to others.
