More infectious than toilet seats: the dirtiest devices named

Personal devices, which we interact with most often, become a place where dirt and dust accumulate.

Researchers swabbed 38 devices, trash cans, bus handles and toilet seats to find out just how dirty our gadgets really are.

Having counted the number of individual colonies of bacteria, scientists admitted that headphones were the dirtiest of all devices, writes the Daily Mail .

An average of 1,073 colonies of bacteria were found on their surface. This makes the average pair of headphones twice as dirty as a toilet seat and slightly cleaner than a trash can.

In second place were laptops with 645 colonies. They are three times dirtier than bus handles (190 colonies).

Third place goes to computer mice with 408 colonies, fourth place goes to keyboards with 237 colonies.

Phones were the cleanest of all devices. However, the presence of 187 colonies of bacteria on their surfaces has scientists worried.

Scientists emphasize that Pseudomonas bacteria on some headphones and computer mice can cause eye infections, skin rashes, purulent acne, and diarrhea.

In people with weakened immune systems, they may increase the risk of pneumonia and sepsis.

Researchers have warned that the bacteria are resistant to antibiotics, making infections more difficult to treat.
