Roskomnadzor reported on the situation with the mass blocking of Russian channels on YouTube.

The video hosting service began actively restricting the work of media, bloggers, and journalists from the Russian Federation in 2020.

The YouTube service, owned by the American company Google LLC, has blocked access to more than 200 channels from Russia over the past four years, TASS reports.

Moreover, since the beginning of 2024, this number has amounted to 83 channels, the department specified. In 2020, there were only 13 cases of blocking, and in 2021 - 21.

Not only the media and bloggers came under fire, but also artists who speak out in support of SVO (Shaman, Oleg Gazmanov, Polina Gagarina).

Roskomnadzor noted that such a policy on the part of YouTube contradicts the key principles of the free dissemination of information and is an act of censorship.

Meanwhile, in Russia, the possibility of blocking the popular messenger is being discussed.

Earlier, the deputy assessed the likelihood of WhatsApp* being blocked in Russia.
