Golikova: Number of women of reproductive age is falling in Russia

The number of women aged 20-30 has fallen by almost a third over the past decade.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, this trend will be long-term in Russia, as the generation of the 1990s has entered reproductive age.

During this period, the birth rate in Russia fell due to economic problems, writes RBC .

She said that the UN defines the reproductive age as 15–49 years.

In Russia, the number of women aged 20 to 29 decreased by 37.5% between 2010 and 2021 and will continue to decline until 2046.

This is due to the collapse of the USSR and the economic crisis in the 1990s.

A large reduction in the number of women of reproductive age is the reason for the decline in the birth rate.

Golikova believes that Russian women, on average, give birth to their first child at 26 years old, when it would be more correct to do so at 24 years old.

Earlier it was reported that Russia wants to create conditions for parents with children to live in dormitories .
