Managers, especially top managers, who are directly involved in operational activities and work in overload and multitasking mode, by the end of the week often find themselves in states that are not resourceful in their feelings: extreme fatigue accumulates, a feeling of "overload" arises, the problems that employees come with begin to irritate, emotional breakdowns occur, up to the point of wanting to quit everything.
Almost every manager is familiar with these states. And it is important to understand that in a state of fatigue, and especially accumulated over-fatigue, a manager is not able to make effective decisions.
The path from point A to point B becomes much longer. If a manager is under severe stress from overload, then instead of making decisions for his company, he will create problems. That is why sacrificing oneself for work is not about high responsibility, but on the contrary, it is truly irresponsible in relation not only to oneself and one's health, but also to the entire organization.
15 years as a director of a large trade and manufacturing company helped me to form my own "reboot" method. These simple steps will allow you to start each new week in a resourceful state and with a desire to act.
1. Set aside at least half a day for yourself, or better yet, a whole day. Schedule it into your schedule. Decide that "rebooting" is an important task that cannot be canceled under any circumstances.
2. It is important to spend the “reboot” time alone, without friends, acquaintances and family members.
3. No gadgets. Complete digital detox throughout the “reboot” procedure.
4. A walk in nature is the best way to restore emotional and physical health. Walk as long as you want. Enjoy the beauty around you. Observe nature, note any changes in your condition. Continue walking until you feel real emotional pleasure and pleasant physical fatigue.
5. Then, in order to free up your attention and give your brain a rest, you need to remember and write down on paper all the unfinished tasks for the week. This is a mandatory step in the "reboot". The importance of this step is not only that you free your "working memory" from thinking about unfinished tasks, but also get an interesting increase in efficiency in completing these tasks next week. According to my statistics, 70% of the tasks from this list are resolved by themselves in a few days of the work week, 10% become irrelevant, and only 20% of the tasks remain to be completed by applying your intention.
6. In order to be not only a rested leader, but also an effective one, plan the coming week in such a relaxed state. This will help you to keep your attention focused on important tasks and not to fill your schedule only with urgent matters to the detriment of important ones. This way, you will be able to lead the company to success in a shorter way.
7. Organize a lunch for yourself in your favorite, beautiful place with delicious and aesthetic dishes and drinks. This will give you the necessary pleasure and bring back the taste for life.
8. At the end of the "reboot", add physical activity in the gym, pool or dance floor or enjoy any body treatments: sauna, spa treatments, massage - are welcome. Try to fully enjoy these sensations, turning off the flow of thoughts.
This “reboot” technique has a positive effect not only on restoring your resource state as a leader, but also “revives” you to creative activity in the family, you return with a positive emotional attitude, which also affects your loved ones.
