The auction house recalled that this work is a study for the famous painting "Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom". The painting was commissioned by Emperor Alexander III.

The painting put up for auction depicts one of the daughters of the underwater king, who was the intended wife of the famous hero of the Novgorod epic, Sadko.

It was for this work that Repin was awarded the title of Academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts.

As specified by the auction house, the canvas will be the main lot of the last auction of the year, which will take place on December 15 in the capital. It is expected that a serious fight will unfold for the canvas.

It is noted that this is not the only work by Repin that collectors will be able to compete for. The painting "Landscape with Birches" will also be put up for auction, the starting price of which is 45 million rubles.
