They intend to bring them to criminal responsibility for this, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the region reported on Wednesday, August 21.

According to investigators, there are at least 49 bodies involved, the department's website reported.

Some of them have been lying in the morgue since mid-May 2020. The last body arrived on July 10, 2024.

Law enforcement officials drew attention to the situation. They opened a criminal case on the grounds of negligent attitude towards their duties by competent persons.

They intend to hold accountable members of the administration of the Toksovsky urban settlement, who are responsible for organizing the burial of deceased persons who have no relatives.

At this stage, law enforcement officers are conducting investigative actions. During the work, they will establish all the circumstances, as well as determine the causes and conditions of the incident, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
