The smell of the meat product is far from neutral. Fresh meat does not smell of anything or has a weak milky aroma. However, in the case of ready-made minced meat, staleness is sometimes hidden under an abundance of spices, and then two other symptoms come to the rescue.
The mince can be any color, but not pink or red. Chicken mince is pink, pork and beef mince is red. But gray and brown should alert you, since the product is almost certainly expired.
The consistency of the mince should be elastic. A good product should not fall apart and certainly not be slippery to the touch.
